2015-2016 Activities

2015-2016 was again a rather quiet year for CPSG Japan. Our major tangible outcome during this year was publication of the Japanese translation of the IUCN SSC Guidelines on the Use of Ex situ Management for Species Conservation. Translation of another guideline - the Guidelines for Reintroductions and Other Conservation Translocations – is ongoing. These guidelines are frequently used when discussing endangered species conservation, and we believe the Japanese version will contribute to the conservation community in Japan. Also, hopefully, the translation with the name of CPSG Japan will make our presence more visible.

Cooperation between the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the Ministry of the Environment of Japan are progressing and ex situ conservation of three Japanese endangered species will newly start by the end of this fiscal year. Some of our members are playing an important role in these projects and we are searching the way to contribute as a group.

A workshop for conservation planning of Amami jay, an endemic species to Amami-Oshima Island, was proposed. We have just started preparing for it.
