Jamie Copsey, Director of Training

On completion of his BSc, Jamie went on to undertake a variety of field research and conservation work, including work with vultures in Israel, whistling duck in Trinidad, and kestrels in Mauritius. Jamie then spent the next 18 years working for the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, first as Deputy Head of Conservation Education before moving into conservation training in 2003 and becoming Head of Learning and Development in 2009. As Managing Director of Durrell Conservation Training Ltd, he established a new capacity building organization in Mauritius in 2013. In July 2017, Jamie became Director of Training for CPSG, with a remit to help the organization building global capacity for species conservation planning.

Jamie now leads the development and delivery of CPSG’s capacity building program, designing and running CPSG courses online and in-person, developing and coordinating CPSG’s Development Path Mentorship Initiative, and managing the growing network of trained conservation planners worldwide. Jamie also works with the wider team to provide process design and facilitation support for groups keen to develop conservation plans for their species of concern. 

Jamie currently lives in Cornwall, UK, with his three children – Patrick, Matilda, and Ferguson – and wife Olivia, who works in field of education for sustainable development.
